Preparations are underway for Fashion Museum Bath to re-open in 2030. We are out and about meeting with lots of different people, community groups and organisations in and around Bath. There’s still lots going on for you to get involved in during this temporary closure.

Introducing Fashion Unpacked – A Mini Museum on the Move

We’re so excited to share Fashion Unpacked – a portable mini museum that’s ready to pop up across Bath & North East Somerset.

Designed by artists Lesley Barnes and William Warren our stylish trunk is more than just eye-catching – it’s packed with hands-on, interactive activities that invite you to explore Fashion Museum Bath’s collection in fun, creative, and tactile ways.

For the first time, we’re taking objects from the collection out into the community, so you can get up close and explore them in person.

There’s plenty to get involved with too:

Make & Take – Create bookmarks, embroidery, and fabric rubbings using motifs inspired by historical garments and textiles.

Pockets & Play – Discover fashion history through games and activities featuring embroidered pockets and accessories from the 1700s to present day.

Style & Sentiment – Reflect on identity and memory through fashion with activities like bracelet braiding and our try-on trunk, inspired by sentimental pieces like mourning brooches and hair jewellery.

We’ll be revealing dates and locations soon – sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know, and join us as we unpack the stories behind fashion.

Behind the scenes

From umbrellas to underwear, makeup to mannequins and clogs to couture gowns, caring for a diverse collection of up to 100,000 objects continues at pace during our temporary closure. We’re also considering innovative new ways to make our incredible collection easier to access than ever before.

Our future

Through exhibitions, displays, a global lending programme, and new learning and communal public spaces, the new museum for Fashion Museum Bath will deliver opportunities for audiences to engage with, learn about, be inspired by, and share their experiences of fashion, past, present and future.
