Don’t miss our Royal Women Twilight Talks this February!

The dark days of January are finally over and to celebrate we have a whole host of fashiontastic talks kicking off this February at the Fashion Museum.

31 January 2019

Whether your New Years’ resolution is to get more culture or it’s simply time to take a break from the duvet and try something new, we have it covered with the start of our spring programme of Twilight Talks, a series of after-hours talks by expert speakers on fashion and the history of dress. Taking place in the Fashion Museum galleries on Thursday evenings, we are delighted to begin this month with two talks focused on our current special exhibition Royal Women, which runs until 28 April.

Dr Kate Strasdin, author of Inside the Royal Wardrobe: A Dress History of Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) is joining us on 7 February to tell the story behind the recent discovery of Queen Alexandra’s missing dress; a gorgeous black velvet sequinned evening gown from around 1908. Kate will take us on a backstage tour of a working royal wardrobe, discussing the dressers, launderers and embroiderers who would have worked at the palace, and revealing how these garments have come to survive today. A book signing will accompany this talk.

And for all those curious about what goes on behind the scenes at the Fashion Museum, don’t miss Royal Women exhibition curator, Elly Summers on 21 February. Join Elly for an exclusive insight into the exquisite pieces selected for display in Royal Women, examining not only the collection stories that lie behind the objects, but also the processes involved in curating a major fashion exhibition.
