Weaving lace effects workshop

Warning

The date for this event has passed. Please check What's on for current events.

In this workshop you will learn how to create different woven lace techniques using a rigid heddle backstrap loom and finger control with Penny Wheeler.

Taking inspiration from the ‘Lace in Fashion’ exhibition you will come away with some beautiful samples of woven lace. The workshop is suitable for those new to weaving or with some weaving experience.

Penny Wheeler is a hand-loom weaver and artist who works from her studio in Bath. Penny is fascinated by the potential of weaving; how construction, colour, yarn and texture can create endless possibilities of cloth and how she can push this further.

Whilst Penny was an artist in residence with Somerset Art Works for the Z-Twist-2014 project she made the rigid heddles we will be using in the workshop. Penny's latest work is a living, growing shift dress woven from recycled plastic bags as part of the shiftWorks project for seam Collective.

Penny has an MA in Textiles from Bath Spa University, works part-time as a visiting lecturer and enjoys sharing her love of weaving, colour, yarn and texture with students.

Equipment will be available for attendees to use on the day.  Please bring £1.50 in cash to cover the cost of materials, payable to the tutor.

Tickets available from the Bath Box Office website. Attendees must be able to climb stairs.
