Awards and bursaries

The Fashion Museum awards the K G Ponting Memorial Bursary for Students each year.

The Fashion Museum, in conjunction with The Pasold Research Fund, makes an award each year to enable a student in higher education in the UK to travel to Bath to look at objects from the museum collection in the Study Facilities. The Award is made possible through the generosity of the late K G Ponting (1913 – 1983), a previous Director of The Pasold Research Fund who lived locally and was an expert on the West of England cloth trade.

Prospective applicants must first contact [email protected] to check whether the museum holds material relevant to their research.

Applications for the K G Ponting Memorial Bursary should include the following:

1) a letter, essay or presentation of no more than 500 words giving clear and full information (including illustrations) about a named and specific project, together with details of the type of material to be viewed in the Study Facilities.

2) a costing of travel, accommodation and subsistence;

3) an indication of first and second preferred dates of travel to Bath, preferably between September and November 2020.

4) a letter of support from a tutor;

The K G Ponting Memorial Bursary covers the cost of a return standard class rail fare to Bath within the UK plus accommodation and subsistence for up to three nights. Awards are made up to a maximum of £300.

All successful applicants must submit a report to the Fashion Museum within six months of their visit to Bath.
