Fashion Museum – GCSE, GNVQ, A-level

A visit to the Fashion Museum supports learning in a range of subjects including history, art and design.

Manipulating fashion

This session allows students to explore and understand how designers from the past and present have utilised fabric in a creative way. The focus of the session will be on the fine detail – ruching, gathering, smocking, buttoning etc. Students will explore the displays, make drawings and take photographs to identify the key shapes and structures of the fashions on display. From these research activities they will develop the structuring ideas that drive their designs using a variety of media and materials.

Work experience placements are offered to students from age 16 years. All placements are unpaid and are subject to availability and an interview. We welcome teachers’ visits and can accommodate risk assessments as required.
