Jane Austen's Bath

Jane Austen was no stranger to Bath. She paid two long visits here towards the end of the eighteenth century, and then lived here between 1801 and 1806. Many of her novels mention Bath: the city was a centre of fashionable living during the twenty-five years that the books span.

Bath is still very much as Jane Austen knew it – both in its intrinsic character and in the ordered elegance of its architecture.
