Jane Austen: Film and Fashion
exhibition, 2004
|
In recent years the costume drama has reached new heights of
popularity, both on television and in film. Perhaps the most
popular works that have been adapted for the screen are the novels
of Jane Austen.
|
In this exhibition visitors were able to see costume from
recent productions, such as the BBC's Pride and Prejudice, starring
Colin Firth and the Oscar winning film version of Sense and
Sensibility that featured Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and Hugh
Grant. These replica costumes were featured alongside
original examples of fashionable dress and accessories from the
early 19th century from the Museum of Costume's
extensive collection.
